BHU Celebrates Women's Power through Sports on International Women's Day

Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) marked International Women’s Day in a unique way by organizing a two-day sporting event to showcase the strength and spirit of its female staff and students. The event, held on March 8th and 9th, was organized by the University Sports Board.

The celebrations kicked off on Wednesday with a 3-kilometer run and walk that saw enthusiastic participation from over 50 teaching and non-teaching women employees of the university. This was followed by a series of engaging competitions including a slow cycle race, table tennis matches, a 100-meter race, and the crowd-favorite tug of war.

The finals of the tug of war and other games were held on Thursday amidst much fanfare and cheering from supporters. The event was graced by the presence of Sports Board officials including General Secretary Prof BC Kapri, secretaries Prof Archana Singh, Rajiv Kumar Singh, Pradeep Khalkho, Dhirendra Tiwari and Pramod Kumar Yadav. Assistant Director Robin Kumar Singh,Section Officer Banarasi Prasad, and teachers from various BHU institutes also joined the celebrations.

The sporting extravaganza highlighted the importance of good nutrition and targeted nutritional plans for enhancing the performance of women athletes. Experts emphasized the crucial roles played by carbohydrates, ergogenic aids, adequate hydration, and a balanced intake of macro and micronutrients in optimizing performance and aiding recovery.

As the world celebrated the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, BHU’s unique initiative promoted the spirit of gender equality through sports. The event encouraged women to break barriers and strive for excellence in all spheres of life.
